Kasumi is trying to recover an item called a grey box that once belonged to someone close to her and has asked for your help to break into a secure vault to obtain it. They are all such a great idea for a sci-fi thief but needed expanding upon more as there is only about 2 hours or less worth of content involving her. Replaying this on the Legendary Edition was a great reminder of how much I liked her design, abilities and mission. Kasumi was always one of my favorite characters in Mass Effect 2.

Kasumi is a fun character, if underwritten, and her loyalty mission is one of the better ones. I think Stolen Memory is decent, worth picking up and experiencing, though in this day and age, no one is buying Mass Effect DLC piecemeal, so you’re likely to just get it with the Legendary Edition. Additionally, she too is an afterthought in ME3, appearing only in a very missable, tiny side quest. That being said, also like Zaeed, she is terribly underwritten and can barely be spoken to, even on the Normandy offering only one-liners and not a proper conversation. She’s recruitable as soon as you’re out of the game’s intro, so she can be used for the entirety of the game if you wish. I think she’s a fun character, with some charming dialogue written throughout the story. The other main point to mention about this DLC is that Kasumi is a full-on squadmate usable for the entire game, like Zaeed was. There’s a boss fight at the end, but it’s a reskin of the gunship you fought in Garrus’s recruitment mission, so again, nothing particularly interesting there, either. With you down a squadmate, it’s a little more challenging, which makes it a little more interesting, but it’s not enough to prevent the back half of this from being a slog. The second half, however, is nothing new, with you fighting the same Eclipse mercs and mechs you’ve been battling all game. I think this is fun and a rare opportunity for ME2 to actually feel like a role-playing game. There’s multiple options and ways to deal with the different layers of security, so it won’t be identical upon replay. I like the change of pace in the first half of the mission, where Shepard schmoozes their way around a ritzy party as they case the place for Kasumi’s heist. I would say that unlike Zaeed’s, Kasumi’s loyalty mission is definitely in the top half of these in terms of quality. The main part of the DLC is Kasumi’s loyalty mission, which serves the same role as the other party members’ loyalty missions – take on a small episodic-style adventure with that teammate and help resolve their personal story. ME2’s first (second if you count The Price of Revenge) story expansion focuses on the DLC squadmate Kasumi Goto, a master thief that functions like a fusion of the Engineer and Infiltrator classes.
